A man from Castletown’s been dragged through the streets by police until his lifeless body was hanged from a lamppost as an example to others about their Manx dialect.
The sentence was carried out after a court heard Bombur Quayle of Langness had told friends he was going “up north” last month.
“It’s one of them signs, isn’t it?” the friend who rang police said, “Terrorists don’t know it’s ‘down the north’ so anyone that says ‘up’ has to be reported.”
Officers say people should be vigilant – and if they spot anything suspicious they should contact the Manx Vernacular Unit at police headquarters.
